About Brisbane

As the capital of the famed Sunshine State, Queensland, Brisbane is a large city boasting a population of over two million people. The core of Brisbane, the central business district (CBD), wraps around a peninsula of the Brisbane River. You can find plenty of shopping and food options here, with some stand-out locations being the Queen Street Mall, Myer Centre, and Brisbane's China Town. Brisbane's CBD also features plenty of accommodation options, with dozens of places to stay at a range of prices.

However, Brisbane stretches in all directions around this central area. Just south of Brisbane CBD is South Bank, home of the Queensland Cultural Centre. This is a heritage-listed entertainment area and the state's official arts and cultural hub. Here, you can find the Queensland Museum, the State Library of Queensland, the Queensland Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art, and the Queensland Performing Arts Centre. You will also find a myriad of dining options, as well as local attractions such as The Wheel of Brisbane - a Ferris wheel with a great view of the Brisbane CBD skyline and Streets Beach - a manmade lagoon surrounded by white, sandy beaches and sub-tropical plants.

To the north of Brisbane CBD looms Mt. Coot-tha: the site of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and a beautiful look-out over the entire city. You can explore the mountain in many ways, from driving up the mountain yourself to reach the look-out (there's even a cafe up there!), to taking a free guided tour through the Brisbane Botanic Gardens to peruse the multiple themed gardens.

For true shopping fiends, Brisbane also has four gigantic Westfield Group shopping malls. They are packed jam full of fashion, food, and entertainment facilities and are located at:
